SPLA/IO accuses govt of planning to attack their position in Yei,  central Equatoria

PRESS RELEASE

To the United Nations Security Council, African Union, IGAD, Troika, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International.

This morning the ruthless, brutal and genocidal militia of Salva Kiir and Taban Deng Gai are planning to launch an attack on SPLA-IO positions in Yei River State within these days.

I am bringing this to the attention of the region and the international community that SPLM/A-IO is for peace. And that we shall defend our positions against any attack from the anti- peace elements of Kiir and Taban.

Secondly, the dialogue Kiir is preaching is fake; it is not for peace but to blindfold the region and the international community while the regime uses it for planning war.

In the recent past Kiir’s Mathiang Anyoor and Dut ku beny have been busy gang-raping girls and women, pillaging property and villages and brutally killing dozens of innocent non-Dinka civilians in Yei town and some of the parts of the State. This included brutal murder of a clergyman in Yei town on the 10th March 2017 and another one in Kajo-Keji County. They also killed a Ugandan bodaboda cyclist in Yei town and many more women.

The suburbs of Yei town (Sopiri, Hai Dam, Nyomgbe, Lutaya and TTC areas) have become slaughter places of civilians by Kiir’s tribal forces. They are using terrorist tactics to wipe away the non-Dinka population.

SPLM/A-IO calls for resuscitation of the collapsed ARCISS signed in August 2015 for it’s full implementation, but not less or more the controversial 28 and 32 States. They must be revoked because they are creating more conflicts and divisions among the South Sudanese people over land borders.

Thirdly, we are calling on UN and all humanitarian Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to extend humanitarian support to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) living in the SPLA-IO liberated areas in the Equatoria Region.

While SPLA-IO strongly condemns the adamant and continuous denial of access to humanitarian workers by Kiir’s collapsing regime, we also call upon the region and the international community to impose pressure on Kiir to allow access to humanitarian corridors in the region regardless of who is in control of the area in need.
