Gen. Taban Deng blocked from IGAD meeting in Addis to represent SPLM-IO 

Addis Ababa – The controversial First Vice President of South Sudan, Gen. Taban Deng Gai, has been blocked from IGAD meeting in Addis Ababa to represent SPLM-IO. The IGAD secretariat says the do not recognize Gen. Taban as representing the SPLM-IO following his resignation and subsequent dismissal. 

The told Taban that he would only be accepted in the meeting on condition that he is part of the government delegates.

Gatdet Dak, Machar’s spokesperson also confirm the matter on facebook and had the below to say:

“IGAD has denied  the “illegal” First Vice President, General Taban Deng Gai and his delegation, from participating in the IGAD Summit of Heads of State and Government in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on Friday, August 5, 2016. They will now be moving outside at the corridors of the meeting without an official recognition.

Our delegation is also in Addis Ababa as the corridors engagement and diplomacy takes place” Gatdet wrote 

Taban was sent to Addis alongside government delegation including Dr. Martin Elia Lomorro, Michael Makuei Lueth among other government officials including presidential advisors.
