SPLM-IO to open independent mobile networks in controlled areas

Addis Ababa – SPLM-IO has agreed with a France communication company, La Contesse, to open mobile network in their controlled areas including Greater Nasir and Greater Akobo counties. The network is also expected to  also operates in Chollo Kingdom (Wedakona, Manyo and Pinyikang) and as well as other controlled areas in Unity State.

The network would be purely independent and fully   controlled by SPLM/A-IO without any interference or interception from the government of South Sudan.  La contesse Company will continue to extend its activities to Longechuk,Nasir  and Greater Akobo  counties as well as the entire Upper Nile including Malakal” Said Gatluak Jok Nyuot, Deputy Spokesperson for SPLA-IO, in a statement imparted to Wangdunkon Media.

The ‘SkyConT’ network will replace the previous network including Zain, MTN and Vivacell which were shut down shortly after the onset of the fighting in December 2013 in the opposition controlled areas.
