JMEC welcomes the removal of Dr. Riek and appointment of Gen. Taban Deng as the FVP.

Juba – The Chairman of Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) has surprisingly welcomed the controversial appointment of Gen. Taban Deng Gai by President Salva Kirr in place of Dr. Riek Machar as the First Vice President representing the armed opposition.

Festus Moggae, the Chairman of JMEC, said if the opposition agree and nominate anyone for appointments by the President, JMEC have no problem and “welcomes it”

Taban imposed himself to takeover the leadership of the SPLM-IO in Juba  including becoming the Commander in Chief of the IO force in the field.

It’s not clear why JMEC acted so fast and taken side in this very delicate and complicated leadership problem within the SPLM-IO which severely threaten the peace agreement.
