Press statement: Government soldiers blocked SPLA-IO special force from Booth


Pagak – Government soldiers blocked SPLA-IO special force under command of Major General James Ochan Puot Buop from Booth.  The SPLA/IO soldiers were on move for the last three days to Mai-wut County, East of Upper Nile close to Ethiopian border where the sector is located. The moves come when the military organization (SPLA-IO) decides to make changes right from General Headquarters in Pagak.

On the way, government forces ambushed SPLA/IO mighty forces in deferent locations trying to prevent them from reaching their final destination (Mai-wut).

Besides that, government soldiers are also on the plan to attack SPLA/IO military base in Kwek,North of Upper Nile and their intention is to capture  or gain possession of our base by force or military means. After several battles on Tuesday and Wednesday on the way, our gallant forces defeated the attackers, and ordered not to rejuvenate to their position, but to continue with trip as planned. All SPLA-IO forces in all garrisons, Northern part of Upper Nile are order to take their positions in case of any eventualities; our forces will remain vigilant and will only act for self-defend.

 SPLA-IO would like to inform South Sudanese population, IGAD-PLUS and peace partners that government forces have moved out of their deployment areas in Upper Nile to provoke the situation at any time .This clear violation of cessation of hostilities indicate that Juba is not ready for peace and that’s why it had blocked   SPLA-IO forces to Juba  including the chief of General staff  1st  Lt. General Simon Gatwech Dual who still at Airport  in Ethiopian town of Gambella, refusing to grant his plane a landing permit to Juba.
