Pagak – The SPLM-IO as the political wing of the armed opposition faction in South Sudan may soon or later be transformed into a separate political party away from the one under the leadership of President Salva Kirr Mayardit as the parties and in the process of peace implementation
In the recent visit of Gen Taban Deng Gai, the opposition leadership concluded that “should Kirr drag feet on the party reunification, the movement may opt for a separate party”
Manawa Peter Gatkuoth also confirmed the development as he wrote: “On the SPLM Reunification, President Kiir is not for the Reunification of SPLM. So the SPLM (IO) might opt for a party in the future”
several other sources within the SPLM-IO have confirmed to Wangdunkon Media separately. What is not clear is whether they will maintain the name SPLM, which no one has ever been willing to leave completely, or come up with a new name and leave the SPLM for Kirr as he recently registered it.
