Pagak- Yesterday around 11:00 AM, 7 Toyota land cruisers heavily armed from South Sudan capital Juba attacked opposition assembly site in Wundurba area. This is unacceptable for SPLA-Juba faction to continue violating the signed peace accord between the two parties in August 2015.
The continued military aggression by government forces left us with no choice, according to opposition spokesman Gatjiath, our forces engaged them in fierce battle at Katigiri area to halt the convoy from advancement to our defensive positions.
The same attacked happened in Mundiri area yesterday but no proper information on the ground yet on how the skirmishes ended.
Mean while, the exact number of casualties could not be estimated because the fighting is ongoing, according to our field commander in Western Equatoria, Maj.General John Kenyi who is in charge of SPLA-IO gallant forces on the ground.
SOLA/IO condemns the ongoing killings and deliberate displacement of civilians by the government forces in Yambio and other areas in Equatoria, where the local community of Equatorians is being targeted by the regime of Juba.
South Sudan government should not deny responsibility for all these atrocities committed by its forces; it’s going to be answerable one day before the laws. Thus, we are calling on JMEC and IGAD –Plus to put more pressure on South Sudan government to cease fire at all levels to bring an end a total silent of guns at all war fronts in order to give peace a chance.
