JMEC chairman in Malakal; IDPs calls for peace and 28 states nullification

Malakal – The Chairman of Join Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) Mr. Festus Mogae is in Malakal for overnight visit and had a chance to talk to the humanitarian organizations as well as a trip to the PoC to visit the IDPs in Malakal.

Upon arrival and after touring Malakal town and meeting with goverment Secretary in Malakal, Mogae held a meeting in UNMISS log base with the humanitarians organizations operating in Malakal and discussed a number of issues regards the challenges being faced by the humanitarians among others.

Mogae, after finishing with the humanitarians meeting went straight touring the whole PoCs and held a public and open gathering inside PoC with IDPs. Some community representives including the Chairman of Peace and Security Council in the Camp, Mr. Mathew B. Chuol, expressed their views all against the creation of 28 states by the govement terming it as delayment of peace implementation.

Communities, especially Nuer and Shilluk, were carrying some banners rejecting the 28 states unilaterally created by President Kirr late last year.

Mr. Mogae will proceed to Bentiu Thursday before flying out of the Country to Ethiopia to attend the African Union submit.
