SPLM-DC to change its name to “Democratic Change Party” (DC Party)

Juba – The SPLM-DC led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin has said the party is set to change its name to “Democratic Change party” citing that the name SPLM-DC (Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – Democratic Change) is not valid as we are no longer “Sudanese” but South Sudanese

The Party’s National Council has agreed to change the name which once approved by the party’s National congress, the name shall thereafter change to “Democratic Change Party”

In his words, Dr. Akol said “We changed the name of the party because we are no longer Sudanese” citing that any party should have a legitimate name.

SPLM-DC is and has been the main opposition party in South Sudan after its leader, Dr. Akol, lost to SPLM’s Salva Kirr in 2010 election which was held when the Country was still under Sudan.

The party has been actively critical and maintains its position especially in parliament but has no representation in Salva Kirr’s goverment.
