Press Statement – Yesterday at 6:00AM, government troop attacked rebel positions at Tuarkiel and Manlaw Payams in Rubkotni County in Unity State. The attack came through three different directions, Wangkei, Nhialdieu and Buoaw which was our usual base where our forces had been dislodged three days ago by government forces despite the permanent ceasefire that has been signed by the two warring parties on 17th Aug/2015 in Addis Ababa.
The war started early in the morning at 6.00AM and the attackers ended up to lootin and burning the houses and also raided the huge herd of cattle at the said payams.
The battle was really very heavy it has taken the whole day from 6: AM, to 3: PM according to the rebel military spokesman.
They based and patrolled around the cattle camps at Tuarkiel Payam. Again in the late evening at 4: PM, they started the fight again up to late evening the war was still on.
It is our dismay as the movement that our leadership is seriously advocating for how peace should come in the youngest nation while government still carrying evil plans to sabotage the implementation of the compromise peace agreement (CPA- II) and still advancing to control our bases while IGAD Monitoring Verification Mechanism team doesn’t see the shortcoming by the government but always capitalizing and zooming negative accessions against us.
Three days ago, IGAD Monitoring Verification Mechanism team said they have their members on the ground especially in Unity State, Upper Nile and Jonglei. The rebel leadership questionin the presence of IGAD monitoring team on the ground while keeping silence over violation by the govt.
these three areas where this war has been going on since yesterday , according to IGAD MVMT, has government troop usually been in those areas? This is how they have been attacking us always and propagated information to the world that we are the ones perpetuated war against them.
In A separate development, serious clashes have been going on in western Equatoria state especially in Jumbo payam where government troop use to hunt and killing civilians who escaped death to bush using aircrafts bombs on innocent people, looted their properties and burned down their houses around the villages at Jumbo payam. SPLM/IO condemned this continued act of violation by the government.
The Sudan People Liberation Army (SPLA-IO) welcomes the withdrawal of UPDF forces from South Sudan in order to give chance to peace in the youngest nation. We also acknowledge the work of Uganda government that at last shown their position to the world that they are among CPA- II implementers.
