[dropcap]J[/dropcap]uba – South Sudan President has finally signed the IGAD-Plus compromise agreement amid increasing international and regional pressure on him to sign the agreement and save the Country from falling apart.
Prior to his signature, Kirr said he is not happy with the agreement saying “The peace document is not a bible; it’s not a koran..why is it that it shouldn’t be revised? What’s wrong with this agreement?”
Kirr also pointed out that he is only signing because of the pressure mounted on him by the leaders in the region and the world. ” “I’m only signing because you’re making me sign” Kirr continued
Kirr started his speech focusing on stressing the intimidation which his goverment received and said “We have received many intimidating messages aimed at isolating the government from its own people”
However, Kirr urged the regional leaders to stand with him and the opposition in implementing this peace agreement warning that they may spoil it once left with them alone.
Reservation letters passed out
Prior to his signature, the president of South Sudan and his team in Juba first passed out their reservation papers on the agreement to the leaders and representative of the world duirng the signing ceremony in Freedom Hall in Juba.
It’s not clear whether there could be further deliberation by any party to the conflict or the negotiation over that reservation letters.
This signature of President Kirr marked the final peace agreement between the warring parties to the 20 months long conflict in the world’s youngest nation.
Analyses, observing how Kirr signed the agreement, remains so doubtful of the implementation of this agreement.
