[dropcap]A[/dropcap]ddis Ababa: – The SPLM in Opposition has welcomed the formation of a 7 states members committee by the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) to study the reports of the AU Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan (AU CISS) over the atrocities committed during the ongoing conflict between the two warring parties in South Sudan.
“The SPLM welcomes the initiatives by the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC) to establish and seven (7) member states committee namely Algeria, Chad, Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda to study the report of African Union Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan” ~ part of a press statement seen by Wangdunkon Media dating 24 July 2015 reads
However, The armed opposition has objected the inclusion of Uganda into this committee adding that the international community should study very well the role of Uganda in the ongoing conflict in South Sudan.
“The SPLM/SPLA strongly objects to the inclusion of Uganda into this committee. Uganda has been a party to the conflict from since the beginning. Uganda has its army and Airforce active on the side of the Juba regime. It has participated in committing genocide, war crimes and has used the internationally prohibited ‘cluster bomb’ on civilians in South Sudan” continued the Chairman of the SPLM/SPLA (in Opposition) Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon in a one page press statement.
“In light of the above, the SPLM/SPLA calls upon the international community to investigate the role of Uganda in South Sudan conflict” urged Machar
