Business on road transport between Nimule Uganda – South Sudan border has caused chaos of questions around the area why the migration border visa entry to Uganda was increased by Uganda migration authority.
It is believed that Ugandan migration increased visa charges from $50 – $100 USD to each south Sudanese entering the country. In a fair move South Sudan also increased charges to maintain the same border charge.
The move made by two countries has affected small-scale business across Nimule and other parts of South Sudan. According to our reporters many people are puzzled on the border since they can’t manage to raise $100 dollar. Last week on Wednesday, our reporters have been following the story and witnessed all buses which were from Kampala – Uganda flopped with crowds of people were sent back to Uganda after failure of people to pay for single border entry at $100. Many Sudanese and Ugandans are currently trapped on the border seeking for help because of unexpected rise of visa charge.
Individuals affected include students, fleeing and returnee’s refugees and small scale traders. According to wangdunkonmedia interviewed some of these people and here are some of comments we got from stranded travellers.
“ We came when we knew the border fee is the same as usual at $50 but to our surprise we were told the fee was doubled to $100. Some of us we had one-way transport while going back home. ‘’Sudanese students talked to our reporter.
“We had gone to visit our families after several months without going. Some of us we operate small scale business in south Sudan. We had gone to buy supplies from Uganda to our expectation we have got baffled here when we found the visa charge has been increased to $100.” Ugandan women narrated.
We have communicated to both embassies of Uganda and south Sudan to whether they will reconsider international migration law of crossing single border entry, which is valued at $50 worldwide.
